Sacramento International Airport incudes two terminals: Terminal A and B. Terminals A and Terminal B are not connected. Hence, Terminal A is located near Airport Blvd. Eastside; Terminal B by Airport Blvd. West.

There are overall 32 gates: 13 in Terminal A; 19 in terminal B (Previously terminal B had 14 gates). In Terminal A 4 airlines operate and 11 airlines in Terminal B. In all indoor public areas, the Sacramento County Airport System provided have free wireless Internet (Wi-Fi). Sacramento County Airport System has advertised a campaign touted the convenience by dubbing: "Easy as SMF" for the residents of the eastern edge in the San Francisco Bay Area to fly through SMF.

In 1998 Terminal A opened with 275,00 square fit (i.e., 25,500 m2) of twelve gates and floor spaces, which soon became able to expand to 22 gates. In 2014/15, Food Court was remodeled in Terminal A to bring similar customer service among the unique-to-Sacramento restaurants. They were already provided in Terminal B. Future expansion of Terminal A is planned, and it may include the additional second automated people mover and changes in an airside concourse. In Terminal A out of 13 Gates: A1-A17 currently served by American, United, and Delta. On the lower level, there is the baggage claim and check-in counters, concerning the upper level there, Terminal A houses food, drink, and retail concessions, leading to Gates: A1-5 (right-side) and to Gates: A10-17 (left-side).

In the new Terminal, B 19 gates are located, including Alaska, Aero Mexico, Boutique, Contour, Hawaiian, Frontier, JetBlue, Sun Country, Spirit, Southwest, and Volaris. In 1967 Terminal B was built and became the main Terminal building for the new Sacramento Metropolitan Airport. In Terminal B Gates: B4-B23 are currently served by Aero Mexico, Alaska, Horizon, Hawaiian, JetBlue Southwest, and Volaris. Terminal B houses the baggage claim area on level 1, the ticketing area, and check-in counters on level 2 and food, drink and retail concessions on level 3. All three levels are in the pre-security area. Terminal B is connected to the hourly Car Park and the A/B parking garage.

Travelers should remember: To get to gates, you will need to go to level 3 and take the APM shuttle train to your entrance. The gate area houses Gates: B4-B11 and B12-23.
